Show Wrap: Kinja Rules, Movies, a New West Coast-East Coast Connection, and Coastal Angler goes Flahama

Back in the Captain’s Lounge at Harborage Yacht Club & Marina, this week’s show was informative AND entertaining!

As tourism efforts in Martin County and the Treasure Coast continue to grow and mature, it is very important that everyone involved 'know the rules'. In many ways, the Treasure Coast is like the islands, not just in the physical sense with all the waterways, lagoons, rivers, ocean and harbors, but in the sense of governance and how things actually are done in public and behind the scenes. Getting things dones means everyone must know the rules. This is very well illustrated by a Jimmy Buffett song from Don't Stop the Carnival, which was referred to in the show that helps us to understand when and why the rules are 'different' and may (and often do) change from time to time.

This week Talkin' Tourism host Gary Guertin and co-host Robin Hicks-Connors also said goodbye to Martin County Convention and Visitors board member Nicole Wellington, who is moving to Florida's west coast for a new job. Will there be a Florida west coast—east coast connection in the future? Listen to the show for the details.

Now that principal filming has wrapped for Natalie, Queen of Scots, what are the next steps in bringing the independent children’s action feature to a theatre near you? Writer/director Brian Carroll gives more detail on what happens in the post-production stage and what's involved in getting the film ready for distribution.

Looking for fun things to do this Labor Day Weekend? Robin shares her list of top events and activities happening on the Treasure Coast this weekend.

What's new in FLAHAMA? Well, for one, Coastal Angler Magazine launched it's FLAHAMA edition this month and it's beautiful! A huge contingency of advertisers on both sides of the 'Stream' jumped aboard for the inaugural issue. If you're a business in the Bahamas or in Florida, this is a great way to reach potential customers. To learn more, listen to the show and/or visit http://www.coastalanglermagazine.com/.

Last…thank you Erika (at least so far) for not messing up our Labor Day Weekend!

She's pleased to be working in her hometown, and she gave great credit to the Martin County school system.

Surprise guest Jim Knoska, of Yacht Watchman and a participant in National Marina Day, told the listening audience about his company’s unbelievable product that, via the Internet monitors ALL systems on a boat from any location in the world.

Saving the most exciting updates for last, Natalie, Queen of Scots writer/director Brian Carroll gave an update on the feature film, which is being shot on the Treasure Coast. They are more than half way through the filming schedule, and according to Talkin' Tourism host Gary Guertin, "Having personally screened the rough cut of some of the scenes…it is awesome!"

Why was Earl Miller, the general manager of the Bahamas Tourist Office, and Linville Johnson, the deputy director of religious markets, at Harborage Yacht Club during the week? And why were they also spending time with Tom Colucci, executive director Treasure Coast Sports Commission? Listen to the show and you'll know...an old challenge is getting ready to spring back to life again!

The charm of Stuart, those behind it, and what's to come

Arriving dressed in his very best 'Aloha' attire, City of Stuart Commissioner and Martin County Tourism Development Council member Jeffrey Krauskopf gave listeners a very detailed perspective of why and how the City of Stuart has evolved into the charming, unique and sought after Small Town destination it is today. From the early visions of Andres Duany, community charettes, pink sidewalks, the development of the Stuart MainStreet Program, and a unique waterfront location, to today’s vibrant array of shops, restaurants and a 'classic theatre' bringing celebrated performances to the community, Jeffrey’s years of involvement in our City and County give him enormous historical knowledge.

What’s in store for the future? An exposition centre?? More public/private partnerships such as the new Sunset Bay Marina?? A passenger train depot?? If you listened to this week’s show you’d know.

Kick back, download the show (HERE) and get updated on the Bahamas, Natalie, Queen of Scots filming, plans for a Florida/Islands of the Bahamas Golf Championship Series, and more!

Camera, Lights, and Action on the Treasure Coast!

This week’s show was all about “ACTION” (as in lights…camera…action) as show host Gary Guertin and co-host Robin Hicks-Connors had the writer/director and producer of the feature film NATALIE, QUEEN OF SCOTS as the guests in the Harborage Yacht Club and Marina Talkin' Tourism studio.

Brian Carroll and Serenity Caldwell talked about their excitement with the upcoming production of this independent feature film being shot in the Martin County and Treasure Coast area. Shooting is scheduled to start on or around July 20 and is expected to last approximately 30 days. The crew consists of 20 and according to Brian and Serenity have “all of the Happy Hours and restaurant special deals committed to memory!”

This niche tourism market definitely has an impact on our local economy. In addition to food/beverage and other retail sales the crew will be spending additional dollars on equipment rentals, talent expenses and more.

So, just what makes and independent film independent? How long does a film have to be to be considered a feature film? What unique method of funding is being used by Lobsterback Entertainment (for more information visit www.wehavetofindaway.com) that will help guarantee a return on investment and an audience? To learn more about the film, visit http://www.nataliequeenofscots.com/.

The rest of the show full of “Guertinism’s” (Boat-cations, Car-cations), Robin’s “This Week in Treasure Coast History,” upcoming events, and everything (well almost) you need to know about tourism.

The show's audio can be dowloaded or listened to on your computer by selecting this LINK. Grab a tall cool boat drink, sit back, and enjoy the show!
